Students enrolled in English 9 further develop their reading, writing, speaking, listening and thinking skills in a program which encourages creativity and open communication. Literary appreciation, understanding of literary concepts, development of critical reading skills, expansion of vocabulary, experiences with the writing process (narration, description, exposition, and persuasion), development of research skills, and exposure to a variety of genre including both fiction and non-fiction are presented using a variety of resources. Students are also expected to work on independent projects related to speaking, reading, and writing in which they set goals, implement a plan, and evaluate their products.
